We can count many groups that were established and maintained their influence in the second half of the 70s, but it is difficult to count a group whose influence still remains. Founded in 1976 under the leadership of Robert Smith, The Cure continues to exist and influence.
Founded in England in 1976, The Cure released its first album three years later under the name Three Imaginary Boys. This album, which swam through the waters of post-punk and includes an adaptation of Jimi Hendrix's song Fire, is the first and only work by Robert Smith without donning gothic armor. The album doesn't have any of the notorious The Cure songs. However, songs identified with the group such as Killing an Arab just before this album and Boys Don't Cry right after this album met the audience in single format.
Seventeen Seconds (1980), Faith (1981) and Pornography (1982), released between 1980-1982, are successful examples of the group's early gothic sound. The group started a big tour with the release of their Pornography album, and we even saw them with make-up on this tour for the first time. However, this good trend unfortunately did not last long. During the tour, Simon Gallup and Robert Smith fall apart, and Gallup lets the band down. The duo did not speak for 18 months due to this incident.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, the group has reached cult status. We don't know if there is a new album soon, but tour dates have been announced.
