Merve Özbey was born on July 18, 1988 in Istanbul, originally from Erzurum. She studied Turkish Art Music at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory. Ebru Gündeş was the first to discover Özbey. Gündeş, who listened to Özbey singing vocals in a club where singer Utku was performing, asked him to sing a few more songs and then asked, "Would you like to be my vocalist?". Özbey accepted the offer and then sang vocals for Demet Akalın, Bengü, Özcan Deniz, Ferman Toprak, Utku and Yaşar İpek. He met Erdem Kınay while performing solo at Demet Akalın's album launch. Kınay said he would make a project album and recorded a demo for Özbey. In 2012, he accompanied the song "Duman" on Kınay's Project album. The song reached large audiences and made Özbey heard for the first time. In 2013, he sang the song "Helal Ettim" on Kınay's second album Proje 2. When his songs with Kınay became popular, it was decided to make a solo album
