Warner and guitarist Scott "Daisy Berkowitz" Putesky formed Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids in 1989 at The Reunion Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The name was later shortened to Marilyn Manson. During The Spooky Kids, Manson was with Jeordie White (Twiggy Ramirez) and Stephen Gregory Bier Jr. (Madonna) participated in two side projects with Wayne Gacy: Satan on Fire, a pseudo-Christian band in which she played bass guitar, and Mrs. Scabtree.1993. The band caught the attention of Trent Reznor. Reznor produced the band's 1994 debut album Portrait of an American Family and released it under the Nothing Records label. The band built a cult following and expanded with 1995's Smells Like Children EP and The Downward Spiral tour featuring Nine Inch Nails and Jim Rose Circus. On this EP they recorded their first major MTV hit, a cover of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This"), originally a Eurythmics song from 1983. Antichrist Superstar, produced by Trent Reznor, was an even bigger success. In the United States alone, three of the band's albums have gone platinum, three have gone gold, and the band has topped the charts seven times, including two "number one" albums. "number one" albums. Manson first produced the band Jack Off Jill. He helped come up with the band's name and produced many of the band's early songs, as well as playing guitar on the band's song "My Cat" and fronting ten bands in South Florida. Manson later recorded Humid Teenage Mediocrity 1992-1996, a compilation of the band's older songs. Manson contributed liner notes for the album. Manson made guest appearances on DMX's Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood and Godhead's 2000 Years of Human Error, his only albums released on the Posthuman label.
